First Concept Art from Ron Gilbert and Double Fine’s Collaboration Surfaces

November 29, 2011 by Josh Harmon

The Monkey Island creator has teased his project with two character concepts.

Industry legend Ron Gilbert has released the first concept art for his project with Double Fine Games, showcasing two of the game's playable characters.

Details on the project have been pretty much non-existent since Double Fine founder Tim Schafer announced that Gilbert would be working with the company last September, and while this tease doesn't really help ease the suspense, it's proof that the game is still in the works. According to Gilbert, the concept is one he's been bandying about since before his tenure at LucasArts, and one that "needed to be made."

So why should you be excited that Gilbert and Schafer are teaming up again? Well, their past three collaborations were on the classic adventure games The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, and Day of the Tentacle. In other words, they're batting a thousand. Whatever they're working on, odds are good we're all in for a treat.
