Dungeon Defenders II Developer Trendy Entertainment Hit With Layoffs

February 15, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Indie developers Trendy Entertainment layoffs undisclosed number of its staff.

Dungeon Defenders II

Trendy Entertainment, the indie development studio that is currently in the process of delivering Dungeon Defenders II out of Early Access, has unveiled that the studio was hit with a number of layoffs though currently, there are no indication just how many employees was cut from the indie studio located in Gainesville, Florida. However, according to the post from Trendy Entertainment’s community manager, the layoffs came with a hard decision that may help speed up the process of developing Dungeon Defenders II but as of right now, the release schedule is still unclear with only the developers indicating that the launch will be at some point this year.

You may be able to recall Trendy Entertainment an indie studio that was brought out to be a less than desirable studio for employment. This came out after Kotaku did some digging into the indie studio but that was three years ago and the studio has since made some drastic updates to how business is conducted. Now the indie studio is once again under the spotlight after they made an announcement of the studios recent layoffs.

The announcement post states the following:

It’s with great sadness today that we announce some layoffs at our Gainesville studio. These people are not only our co-workers, but our family and our friends. We made the hard decision that a smaller more focused team would be better able to deliver on our overall goals.

This move will reinforce our plans to deliver Dungeon Defenders II out of Early Access as the experience that you deserve. So, stick with us as we update all of our game systems, release new heroes, and continue to defend Etheria.

According to the representative that spoke with Game Informer, Trendy Entertainment is providing assistance to the employees that were affected by the layoffs. Because Dungeon Defenders II has been available in Early Access since December 2014 for PC with PlayStation 4 owners receiving a paid alpha version of the game the following year, it will be interesting to see just how much longer it will take the studio to officially launch the tower defense title full.
