Cities: Skylines’ Winter Expansion Snowfall Dated for Release

February 3, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

Colossal Order and Paradox have revealed when Snowfall is coming out.

Cities: Skylines
, the city-building simulation that blasted SimCity out of the water is getting a second expansion in the form of Snowfall. We covered it a few weeks back, and today its publisher Paradox Interactive has revealed that the game will be released at digital retailers everywhere on February 18, 2016. It’s priced at $12.99 and will be available on PC, Mac and Linux.

In case you couldn’t tell by the name, the Snowfall expansion will add a flurry of new weather-related features that are set to redefine the way players build their cities in Cities: Skylines. There will be a new in-game temperature system that encourages players to monitor their citizens and ensure that they’re getting enough power to keep them warm during the cold, winter days. When snow falls, roads will have to be kept clear to prevent accidents, and buildings will use more electricity for heating.

Residents of every city will also have a chance to visit new landmarks and winter parks. They’ll be able to get to these areas through a newly added tram system that works in every weather condition. Some of these features will be added for free to the core game when Snowfall releases on the 18th.

In a newly released developer diary by Colossal Order, the game’s lead designer Karoliina Korppoo wrote about how weather will affect the traffic in the game in Snowfall. She also detailed how the new tram system works, stating that they have a higher passenger capacity than busses, but also cost more to upkeep.
