Dead Island 2 Seems to Have a Release Date

August 23, 2022 by Todd Black

Is it for real though?

Make no mistake–making video games is a very hard thing. Take a look at what’s going on with the Knights of the Old Republic Remake as an example. Some titles are delayed for a seemingly infinite number of years, and some take forever to come out and aren’t worth the wait. Now, it looks like Dead Island 2 is back from the dead, and a release date may be coming during Gamescom.

This game has been a bit of a joke for years now. It was meant to be the sequel to the surprise hit from developer Deep Silver, and even had a really cool reveal trailer back in 2014 that set the tone for all that was to come. This included a new location change via California versus an actual island. But that’s where the story goes off the rails because the game went through development issues time and time again. It continually changed developers and gameplay, with Deep Silver making announcements that the game was coming without teasers or concrete information.

It got so bad that earlier this year, the reveal trailer for Goat Simulator 3 actually ripped off part of the trailer of Dead Island 2 to fake people out so that they wouldn’t expect their title. That’s something that’s just cold-blooded, even for goats.

However, there might just be hope on the horizon here. Certain Twitter users are saying that the game is being used in advertisements on the Xbox Homepage. Check it out below:

It’s not much, but it is something. What’s more, to our knowledge, that character in the ad hasn’t been seen in previous material in the game, indicating that this is actually something new and concrete from the title. The “Pre-Order Now” bit is also curious, as that would mean that the game is close to launching.

Until Deep Silver comments on it, take this with a grain of salt. Still, things look promising.

The real question is how the game is going to try and make itself relevant so many years after it was supposed to come out. Zombie games are everywhere and if they’re not careful, they’re going to come off like a title that should’ve stayed in the past.
