Two video services will leave the Nintendo Wii U before the end of the year. Google announced that the YouTube app will no longer be available on Nintendo’s console in October. Crunchyroll leaves the Wii U on August 29.
The official YouTube help center warns users that the app will no longer be available on Wii U. This decision comes as Nintendo announced the discontinuation of the Wii U eShop a few weeks ago. Since users will no longer be able to download new games and apps, Google is ending the support of its YouTube app on Wii U.
Crunchyroll will also be leaving the Wii U soon. The anime VOD service will disappear from the Wii U eShop on August 29. Not only users won’t be able to download this app, but those who already have it on their Wii U won’t be able to access the service.
Another service announced leaving the Wii U eShop. Niconico, a Japanese video-sharing service, will be going offline on April 2023. This discontinuation will happen one month after the Wii U eShop goes dark, as the marketplace will close down on March 27, 2023.
If you still want to watch videos on a Nintendo console, you will need to get your hands on a Switch. Both YouTube and Crunchyroll are available on Nintendo Switch.
