Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn stands as a testament to second chances. Game director and producer Naoki Yoshida did not waste that chance and proved there was still life left in the game. I still think the subscription fee may prove a barrier for players, but if they get beyond that, they’ll find an MMO worth playing./

The cutscenes are a nice touch and actually work really well with the game. They’re not jarring and there isn’t anything to necessarily ruin your immersion like with some MMOs. The details are appropriate and the spell graphics / skill graphics look professionally implemented.

I’m never thought I would be this enthusiastic about an MMO again, but I’m in love with A Realm Reborn. Its beautiful world always offers something fun and interesting to do. Sure, it’s not â€the next big thing†for the genre, but A Realm Reborn shines with a hundred smart ideas and small touches. Final Fantasy fans in particular will love adventuring in the gorgeous world of Eorzea.

And when you choose crafting classes, you need to learn a system that slowly becomes more complex–it’s a risk/reward scenario, where improving the item’s quality increases the likelihood that it will break.

Ultimately, I’ve enjoyed my time with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, though I can’t deny its derivative quality. Much of what I’ve discussed regarding this game, good or bad, has been done by other games in the genre and some done better. But then we’ll need to get into the merits of all MMOs, and that’s a discussion for another day. As it stands now, A Realm Reborn vastly improves on its predecessor and delivers a wonderful fantasy world to spend countless hours in. It has its fair share of flaws, especially in regard to the quest structure, but I imagine fans of the genre will enjoy their time with the game regardless.
