Call of Duty: Black Ops II will have women in it. And you, dutiful girlfriend, will be required to play it even though (as previously mentioned) there will be boobs all over the place which automatically makes it like 1000 times more dumb than the dumbest thing that was ever dumb and also tampons.

There is no doubt many will turn their nose at yet another Call of Duty game running on the same engine at 60 frames per second. The “ain’t broke don’t fix†path has certainly been taken again. This being said, Treyarch has undeniably been able to up the ante in nearly every facet of the Call of Duty experience with Black Ops 2. The riveting single player storyline features the wonderfully designed strategic Strike Force Missions; the online Multiplayer experience is much more robust than ever before and the Zombies mode has also received significant upgrades. It is quite amazing how the development team managed to fit this much content onto one disk. Needless to say, shooter fans can purchase Black Ops 2 with confidence.

However, in saying that, the package as a whole is still an incredibly rewarding one and anyone who takes their time with the single-player will find a lot to take away from its rich narrative and jarring moments. It’s also the longest campaign the series has ever seen, clocking in at roughly 10-11 hours for me on Hardened. Add to this a massively expanded and incredibly fun Zombies option and what I’d argue is the best multiplayer the series has ever seen, and the price of admission becomes an afterthought, because as far as value for your money goes, Black Ops II is a veritable waterslide of enjoyment, and for a change, actually does a lot different to what we’ve come to expect.

On top of the "point A to point B" levels, which range from running through Menendez’s hideout and tying in a fantastic vehicle chase for good measure to a battle in Los Angeles where freeways come tumbling down and you blast drones out of the sky at high speed, Black Ops II also throws in some new Strike Force missions. With these, you gain control of several soldiers and vehicles in a battle area, pinpointing where you want them to go and then given the option to assume control of them at any time. These offer some great gameplay variations, while at the same time adding some strategy for good measure. And you can actually fail or succeed, depending on your actions, which further tie into the story events.

Black Ops 2 is a truly complete gaming package. The multiplayer game is excellent, the expanded Zombies mode is an enjoyable and very welcome addition, and the single player campaign is a fun ride that will have you yelling "Josephina!" at random times for weeks to come. About the only miss is the addition of the Strike Force missions, but they don’t drag down the overall experience with them. Black Ops 2 should keep you plenty busy and having fun for quite a while.

With a single-player campaign that finally lives up to the hype of movie level quality and a solid multiplayer experience that clearly shows the benefits of a yearly iterative cycle, Call of Duty: Black Ops II comes close to being one of the best titles in the series. The uneven Strike Force Missions and incongruous Zombie mode distract from an otherwise stellar experience. Luckily, both modes of play are optional and don’t detract too much from the core game, and with the amount of content that Activision and Treyarch have packed on this disc, it shouldn’t even matter.

I played Zombies for about four straight hours. The only reason I couldn’t go on was because of motion sickness. There’s a lot happening in this game from Treyarch, so it wasn’t surprising. You will be terrified, entertained (especially by the voice acting) and addicted. This feels like a separate title and probably could have been from Activision. It’s quite the value and I’m positive there are a lot of easter eggs to discover in it.

While some of the cinematography of key cut scenes is unoriginal (and occasionally ham-fisted) the general visual treatment is balanced and effective. The ’86 settings look like ’86 (which I was able to witness as a teenager personally, so I’ll vouch for that) and the 2025 locations, of which it’s mostly devastation, are crisp, with expertly realized overlays and technology that feels like it’s due in the future, but isn’t so ridiculous as to kick you out of the experience.

But despite the slight dings in Strike Missions and Zombies, the series continues to shine with its incredibly ambitious, globe-spanning, epic single player campaign, which is now augmented with an incredibly high replay factor. And it should come as no surprise that the multiplayer continues to shine, and will dominate the online game boards in the weeks and months to come. The series has come to be strongly identified by its online multiplayer, and the same holds true in this latest release. They’ve perfected the scratch to the itch you have when you feel the need to jump online and shoot things.

sions are going to be incredibly frustrating. The A.I. of your friendly units makes them uncontrollable. If you don’t tell your squads, with incredible specificity, where to go and who to kill, they will be dead within seconds of finding an enemy. Eventually, I would simply just horde them all into a corner take control of them individually in order to complete the mission.
In fact, if I’m being honest, there’s a good chance that I would have given Black Ops 2 a higher rating if Treyarch had removed the Strike Force missions altogether.
However, whatever frustration I had during the single-player campaign was quickly forgotten when I loaded up the multiplayer. Treyarch has really done an amazing job taking the CoD franchise and carving out unique title within the overall framework.
They’ve axed the standard perks/attachment loadout system in favor of what they’re calling a "Pick 10" system. This allows players much more control over the individuality of their loadout.
For instance, if you’re the type of person who prefers gunplay to perks, the Pick 10 system would allow you to add a third attachment to your gun in favor of a third perk. Or, if you’d rather have 2 extra perks, you have the option of removing your weapon attachments altogether.
