Nintendo Chief Impressed Because of Skyward Sword Feature

October 19, 2011 by Karol Sultanescu

President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata has declared that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is revolutionary because of… fast weapon switching. Yeah.

I’ve always found it odd that I had to go through intricate menus to simply use a bomb or switch to another weapon in the Zelda games. Apparently (after 20+ years) they have finally found the solution to the problem by using the Wii controller’s motion sensors.

Now, you press a button and tilt the controller in a certain way. It’s nothing that has not been done before, but it is quite novel to the series (Assassin’s Creed featured a weapon selection radial menu, making a similar gesture based system available for weapon switching).

The game certainly looks fun and fresh, but if the president of a game company thinks that such a system is novel and makes the game fully revolutionary, I’d totally like to have what he’s drinking.
