PS VR2 Preview Details New UI And Broadcasting Features

July 26, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

There’s lots of exciting new features inside the headset.

An early look at the new PS VR2 has been shared by PlayStation and it’s fair to say that the new headset has some pretty cool features on offer. In a new post recently posted on the PlayStation blog, the PS VR2’s new UI experience is showcased alongside details of the new functions of the headset and controllers.

First up, it’s revealed that the newest virtual reality experience from PlayStation will make use of the headset’s new see-through view feature, which will enable players to actually view their real-life surroundings without having to take the headset off. This is down to the PS VR2’s embedded front cameras, which can be toggled on and off via the function button on the headset. This will make for quick snapping in and out of reality, which could come in handy if one of the PS VR2 Sense controllers gets put down somewhere and you can’t quite find it. The new UI also makes use of a Control Centre Card which can also be used to toggle the see-through view feature on or off.

The new headset will also allow players to customise their play area by using the PS VR2 Sense controllers and embedded cameras. Players will be able to scan the room prior to their play session and use the Sense controllers to set out boundaries for their gameplay session to help avoid any accidental knocks or falls. The settings will be saved until players move into another room, at which point they’ll need to rescan and redraw their playable space boundaries.

Additional features listed in the update include the PS VR2’s all-new broadcast functionality, which will let players film themselves during their gameplay sessions by connecting a PS5 HD camera to the console. Finally, the new headset will include both VR mode and a cinematic mode, which will work effectively as a virtual cinema screen for non-VR content and showcase media in 1920×1080 HDR video format with 24/60Hz and also 120Hz frame rates.

There’s no word as yet on a launch date for the PS VR2, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for further updates on this exciting new bit of kit as they come out.
