Breach is a first-person multiplayer shooter that literally blows the floor out from under conventional military shooters. Breach introduces new kinds of destruction that haven’t been seen in any other game, unveils an Active Cover System which allows players to take advantage of any cover as it is ripped apart, and adds in unique, true-to-life spy gadgets which all changes the very nature of multiplayer combat.

Not that many arcade shooters are out there and Breach happens to be a good one. Aspects in the game are almost ridiculous not to be in other shooters like the fact you gain more XP for killing someone at a hgiher level then yourself. Cover systems are always a plus and Atomic Games pulled it off along withe the destructible environments leaving room for some intense scenarios.

There are some problems; in a week of playing the game has crashed a number of times, there’s some truly horrific lag nightmares, and I’ve lost count of the number of times the game has forgotten I had set my Y axis to invert, but you can only imagine these niggles will be ironed out before long.

There’s quite a lot about Breach that I wish had been done better, but the more I played the more impressed I became. It’s clear that a lot of attention went into creating an experience that is indeed more about tactics and destruction than running around and racking up killstreaks.

The game launches with only five maps which might seem miniscule, but this again surpasses “Battlefield 1943†and unlike that title, the variety is very noticeable and the sheer size of the levels is impressive, mixing wide open exteriors with scattered buildings, tunnels and passageways, giving all classes a change to shine. As you’ll read below, “Breach†definitely takes a hit in the A/V department, but from a pure game play standpoint, it’s a moderate success.

However, this is one shooter that won’t be breaching our Xbox 360 for much longer. While the game can certainly have its moments where it shines, there’s simply not enough going for Breach to keep the experience going, especially considering the higher quality of other shooters already available.
