NBA 2K11 is a love letter to basketball fans. If you don’t follow hoops, a lot of the subtleties will be lost on you. And if you are looking for a loose, fun, crazy dunkfest experience like NBA Jam, you’re going to get hosed. But if you are serious about basketball, this will fill a long-standing void in your hoops-loving heart. This is the NBA. No one else has come close to representing it in such great and accurate detail as this.

NBA 2K11 has managed to piece together the best parts of past basketball video games to create an experience that is immersive, rewarding, and novel. Though there are frustrations that mostly stem from the level of difficulty, these are changes for the better. Without the addition of Michael Jordan, this would have been a great basketball sim. Add MJ to the mix, and you’ve got a complete package that will satisfy any fan of the game.

There are other frustrations in NBA 2K11. There are some pretty long load times even around simple little training runs and sometimes substitutions and in bounding seem to take a long time.

To say that NBA 2K11 is a great basketball game is a vast understatement. It's a great representation of the sport, a fitting tribute to a legend, and the one of the best sports games I've played in years. Whether you're a Jordan fan whose interest has waned since his Airness hung up the sneakers or a diehard fan of the current NBA you'll find a lot to love here. This is one game that should be on every sports fan's shelf.

NBA 2K11 striking up such a balance between gameplay, presentation and extra features, we’re wondering if EA Sports delayed NBA Elite 11 out of fear that it simply couldn’t keep up with such greatness. No matter. You’ll get enough of your basketball fix fulfilled with this game, and even more so if you’re a fan of Jordan. Grab a copy and bask in the greatness.

In all, NBA 2k11 is amazing. It looks great and it offers depth that actually makes the game deeper. In other words, you can't just ignore the strategy of calling offensive plays in favor of jumping over and sprinting past the defense.

Whether you love or hate Michael Jordan, 2K11 is the finest hoops title to come along in a long time for its near-perfect presentation of both Number 23 and the other greatest players of his era. The Jordan Challenge mode could almost be its own game, and we’ve gotta imagine that perfectionist-Mike is as happy with his representation as you’ll be.

If you’re new to the game, expect to fail quite a bit — but the ends justify the means. You’ll not only grow as a player of the game, but as an appreciator of the sport. In the end I’m betting you’ll, like me, come to realize NBA 2K11 is the truest adaptation of the sport available.

Though there are some technical flaws, NBA 2K11 remains an exceptional basketball game and an absolute must-buy for lifelong MJ fans. Booting up the game and instantly being thrust into the 1991 NBA Finals against Magic Johnson's Lakers will give almost any fan goose bumps, as will a number of other moments that pop up throughout the game.

NBA 2K11 is the best basketball game ever made, but that is misleading. There are a lot of improvements to be made, and though the graphics are near life-like and the presentation is flawless, there are still many kinks to work out of the gameplay and making all the modes worthwhile.

Still the best basketball series money can buy, NBA 2K11 continues to reiterate a winning formula with tighter gameplay, superior animation and refined visuals. Its presentation is second to none, and on the court, it never fails to disappoint. Our only gripe is that it can be rather unforgiving at times and My Player might test the patience of even the most saintly gamer.
