Project Zomboid Delayed Due To Burglary

October 17, 2011 by Mat Growcott

Another bump in the road to completion, Project Zomboid suffers a terrible set-back…

Indie tiles have problems that a big developer couldn't even dream about. In the last few months Project Zomboid, an awesome-sounding Zombie RPG by the Indie Stone, was knocked back when the developers were forced to take down their public alpha in responce to piracy, a version of the game was leaked that allowed downloaders to use the auto-updater to continue getting the latest version of the game.

So that was removed and replaced by a tech demo of sorts.

Now the developers have been victim to a more direct form of crime. Somebody has broken into a couple of the developer's Newcastle-based flat and has taken two of the laptops containing much of the latest code, along with a credit card. That's terrible as well, but what came after tops it. Upon announcing that his flat had been broken into via twitter and the damage it had caused, the internet turned on developer Chris Lemmy. Twitter users, Reddit users and a handful of other sites exploded of the announcement, with Lemmy being accused of being a thief, a liar and much worse besides.

Drunk and upset, Lemmy started arguing back and what was once a bunch of assholes on the internet became a PR nightmare.

Thankfully, in the cold light of day, everything seems to have calmed down somewhat, with an official statement from the developers.

"This will clearly severely delay the next update, which was very near completion. I personally only just finished my work on it today (one of the final things on the ‘to-do’ list) and had it ready for input tomorrow.

"Project Zomboid, however, will come back stronger."
