In Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the Bad Company crew again find themselves in the heart of the action, where they must use every weapon and vehicle at their disposal to survive. The action unfolds with unprecedented intensity, introducing a level of fervor to vehicular warfare never before experienced in a modern warfare action game.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is as complete a package as you could ever ask for. An exciting and charming campaign mode – a little on the short side, but no more so than Modern Warfare 2‘s, and with extra objectives for you to hunt down should you feel the need – and slick, incredibly rewarding multiplayer modes that actually bring people together instead of making them all swear at each other via the internet, and provide enough scope for you to come away from each session with your own unique war stories. Multiplayer-heavy titles can be a fickle beast, but we’re pretty sure we’ll be playing this one for quite some time to come.

Multiplayer is what most people play this series for, and I’m happy to report that it’s in stellar form here. I’m not a person who buys a game strictly for multiplayer, but I’d recommend this game even if it cut out single player altogether. I don’t know how this game can make me sit down for hours every night, neglecting my responsibilities for something I’ve played a thousand variations of. Yet, it’s done with such sweet science. Maps are perfectly crafted; familiar and new at the same time, even through a hundred playthroughs. I have a stack of review games I need to get through—and yet, I can’t tear myself away from multiplayer. Perfectly executed by people who know where their bread is buttered.

I love military FPS games, and even though I am committed to an ongoing career in MAG I still have the time for fun and friends and awesome team battles in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. I love the maps; love the weapons, and especially the vehicles. When you get tired of all the stress in MAG and all the haters in Modern Warfare 2, come join the boys in Bad Company. We’re always looking for a few good men and this is some of the best team-based multiplayer available.

The collection of maps is reminiscent of the single player as well as some classic throwbacks. There are several modes within the game, all of which take a nod from the quintessential Battlefield manual. Rush mode pits teams against each other in a defend type scenario. Teams protect their M-COM stations while the other exhausts their respawn tickets. There is also a more intimate version of this called Squad Rush where only two teams are involved. Squad deathmatch is exactly what it sounds like and will be familiar to anyone who has played a shooter before.

The multiplayer maps are vast with a few that deserve to go down as ‘classic’ multiplayer maps and as well as the Gold Rush mode, Conquest is now included out of the box. There are also 2 new modes, Squad Deathmatch which features 4 teams of 4 against each other (and which is a blast) and Squad Rush mode which pits one team of 4 against another team of 4 for a smaller scale version of the Rush mode.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will compete for online shooter players’ time with Modern Warfare 2, but I’m not going to declare one of them better than the other. I had fun with Modern Warfare 2, I had fun with Bad Company 2. They’re each a little different from each other, so pick up both and have a lot of fun.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 isn’t good. It’s so good. There’s little doubt that DICE has secured its game a spot as the best shooter of the first half 2010, hurdling the impressive MAG by a few dozen yards. The multiplayer manages to feel completely fresh in the modern era, making the dual-shotgun wielding Modern Warfare 2 look like a fantasy game by comparison. The story might not be as impressive as some hoped, failing to match the humor of the prequel, but the multiplayer goes above and beyond the call of duty, providing the best competitive gameplay in recent memory. DICE has, once again, helped redefine the online shooter, and should provide fans of the genre a plenty of fun for some time to come.
