Vegas 2 takes place in the same time frame as Vegas 1, only in different environments. The game starts as a flashback 5 years to a snowing training mission that teaches the ins and outs of walking, crouching, climbing, rappelling, targeting, and grenading as well as the new features like “sprint†and “thermal scanâ€.

Multiplayer matches no longer have to be balanced, so it’s possible to set games for hardcore experts to show off their skills by taking on large armies of opponents, and (at last, someone gets it!) players can now invite friends into ranked matches from the multiplayer lobby. Invite recipients are automatically teamed up with the sender of the invite, facilitating a vaguely clanlike experience. Fans will also be happy to learn that load times appear to have been reduced dramatically for multiplayer sessions, too.

Single player campaigns have not changed a great deal from the first iteration of this series. As Bishop you’re responsible for moving your teammates from your insertion point to the objective, while hitting various checkpoints along the way. Thankfully, Ubisoft added a sprint function for Bishop, deployed by pressing the left bumper. The AI has been improved from R6V, as your teammates will now, for the most part, cover you while you are moving.

Overall, if you were a fan of the first Rainbow Six Vegas, then you should enjoy Rainbow Six Vegas 2. There is nothing groundbreaking here however Ubisoft did improve on what was already there. The storyline follows the first game pretty well and closes everything off neatly as you finish the campaign. If you werent a fan of the original Rainbow Six Vegas then you probably wont like this title either as it is more of the same. However for gamers who are fans of this series you should have a lot of fun going through the games various modes and trying to unlock everything in the game.

At least the online multiplayer portion of the game runs smoothly. Lately, there have been a growing number of players online so you will certainly find a number of players to go up against or team up with in order to dominate the map. The online multiplayer modes are familiar fare for those who have played the multiplayer matches in the first game. The inclusion of the addictively enjoyable VIP game match type is also a plus for multiplayer fans.

Frustration ensued when AI teammates attempted to use the ‘rappel’ function. Sometimes they wait for no reason instead of sliding down the cord. Similarly, enemies tended to stop short and jam while running. Why? Don’t know. No objects were in their path. So, yeah, chalk it up to rushed coding. It’s good to see the developers have fixed some AI issue from the first game (such as enemies throwing smoke grenades and blocking their own view), albeit we didn’t expect new problems to turn up.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 marks the follow up to the wildly successful first game under the Tom Clancy moniker of titles. It manages to improve the multiplayer mode in every way that actually needed improvement, but somehow falters a bit in the single player mode, offering up a short experience reminiscent of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 that doesn’t capture the same amount of wonderment found in my initial exploration of Sin City a year and a half ago.

Essentially, if the original Rainbow Six: Vegas didn’t float your boat then this game probably won’t do much for you at all. But for hardcore fans of the original or for others who didn’t get round to playing it, Vegas 2 should definitely be worth checking out.

They play well when you get someone with a decent connection, however if you dont (which happens almost always when you have a group of over eight) then prepare for a good minutes worth of lag before the connection finally stabilises (which is about the same time when most people quit).Releasing Rainbow Six Vegas 2 as a full priced game is a swift kick in the nuts to all fans of the tactical shooter. On the PC this would be nothing more than a half priced expansion pack, so why are we being forced to pay full price? The gameplay may have been fine with the original (and it still is here), but a year later its amazing that its escaped through testing with the exact same bugs. Vegas 2 couldve done with a few months more development time, at least, maybe then would we have got the Rainbow Six game we all wanted.

Vegas 2, and it’s the subtle differences between the two games that is the deciding factor as to whether or not the game will continue to be played by the masses on Xbox Live. Even though Vegas 2 is an FPS, it’s very much a Tom Clancy game first and foremost, making it the type of shooter that requires just a little more tact, a little more patience and perhaps a different approach than most shooters.
