Plays.tv Launches Chrome Extension To Better Share And Credit Twitch Content

January 28, 2016 by Carlos Chism

The aim is to help fans share moments from Twitch streams while properly attributing the original streamers.

With Twitch exploding in popularity, it’s begun to be common to see streaming content posted to video hosting sites without a proper credit to the original channel or gaming handle. Plays.tv and their parent company Raptr are looking to change that.

Plays.tv announced today the Plays.tv Chrome Extension, which is now available in the Chrome Store. The extension lets Twitch viewers “quickly capture, trim, and share any moment from a livestream with a click, hotkey, or by typing “!plays” in Twitch chat.” Additionally, the original streamer will always retain credit, with all highlights and personal video uploads appearing on their profile page. The highlights will be organized by livestream session.

The extension lets users capture a “30-second, source-quality video clip of any Twitch livestream a moment after its happened,” which can then be trimmed and posted to Plays.tv. From there, the video can be shared to Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, and other social media.

Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, League of Legends mid-laner for Team Solo-Mid, voiced his support of the extension as a way to put control in the hands of fans while retaining proper credit to the original streamers:

“Fans are constantly asking me to post more highlights, but I just don’t have the time given our crazy practice schedule. It's great that fans can now grab my best moments for me and see them posted next to clips I’ve personally shared."

Nik Adams, Senior Vice President, Global Sales & Business Development at ESL, also praised the service, saying it “gives fans a whole new way of interacting with our broadcasts.”

Hopefully this service will help fans share cool moments from Twitch streams they watch, while properly crediting the original streamer.
