Is it the beginning of the end for Danganronpa Vita exclusivity? It might even be where the future of the franchise is headed.
For those unfamiliar with the Danganronpa games, it revolves around an elite high school, where the top students are involved in elaborate and grandiose mind games, and plans for world destruction. The first two games wereAce Attorney-style investigation games with a heavy emphasis on visual novel elements, while the third game was more of an action game.
The Danganronpa games had seen success on their original platform, PlayStation Vita, but seemed to be more limited by staying exclusive. While Trigger Happy Havoc has been published on mobile, developer Spike Chunsoft needs to see more success from their famous not-quite-blockbuster.
If this Steam release turns out positively, that could make PC a future home for Danganronpa games. Japanese developers like Spike seem to have seen limited success on the Western PC markets for now (see Agatsuma), but there’s still reason to believe there are enough fans looking forward to getting Danganronpa games on a more accessible platform.
