Free Oculus Rift Going Out To Development Kit Backers On Kickstarter

January 5, 2016 by Holly Green

If you’re a DK1 backer, go fill out your Kickstarter survey before February 1 to secure your copy.

Following up news that the Oculus Rift will be opening up for pre-order starting tomorrow, Palmer Luckey has announced that the original dev kit backers on Kickstarter will be receiving a special treat– a "free" Oculus Rift! In an update post on Kickstarter, the company founder and Rift inventor elaborates, saying the gift is a thank you for those who offered their early support. As with the other Kickstarter pre-order tiers, recipients will also get bundled copies of Lucky's Tale and EVE: Valkyrie.

The question of what backers for the Oculus Rift would receive now that the device has been financed several times over has been raised a few times; it looks like the company seeks to address this by taking care of early adopters. Yesterday PC spec requirements were also unveiled, revealing that the Rift will come with the heavy graphics card pricetag of the GTX 970.

If you're a DK1 backer, head over to Kickstarter and fill out your survey by February 1st to ensure you get your Oculus Rift.
