Konami is bringing a new Bomberman game to the Nintendo Switch. During the Nintendo Direct Mini, an event focussing on third-party games, Konami unveiled their latest project. The company revealed Super Bomberman R 2, a brand new adventure coming out in 2023.
This game is a follow-up to Super Bomberman R, which was a launch title for the Nintendo Switch in 2017. This game was the sixth installment in the series, coming out 20 years after 1997’s Super Bomberman 5. Super Bomberman R received mixed reviews and sold over 2 million copies worldwide.
Konami is not waiting 20 more years before unveiling a new Bomberman game, as the company shared the first trailer for Super Bomberman R 2 today.
This sequel will feature the eight Bomberman Brothers, each with their own color: White Bomber, Black Bomber, Pink Bomber, Blue Bomber, Red Bomber, Yellow Bomber, Aqua Bomber, and Green Bomber.
The story mode includes exploration, base building, boss battles, as well as defense and strategy elements. But if you would rather blow up your friends, you can battle in various battle modes. The standard battle mode is back, as well as 3v3 team battles, and Battle Royale for up to 64 players.
In addition to the classic Bomberman modes, Super Bomberman R 2 will feature a new mode called Castle Mode. This competitive mode pits a team of up to 15 players against a single defender. The team must blast its way to treasure chests, while one defending player tries to hold them off. Before the battle starts, the defender can set up his defenses to block the other players from moving forward too fast. His goal is to create his own battle stage to set up traps and blow up the attackers.
Super Bomberman R 2 launches on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Steam in 2023.
