Big news on the Konami/Kojima front. According to Nikkei, Hideo Kojima has officially left Konami and is forming his own studio with other employees of the former Kojima Productions. Sony is reportedly in talks to debut their first game on PlayStation.
Despite this move, Konami will continue to hold the rights to the Metal Gear Solid franchise. There has been no official confirmation from Konami, Sony, or Kojima himself.
For those who aren’t familiar with this developing story, here’s a quick re-cap: earlier this fall, reports surfaced that Kojima had officially left Konami, which Konami denied. The rumored departure made sense given the controversies of the previous spring, in which Kojima’s name was taken off of the box art for The Phantom Pain.
