DICE Has Begun Shifting Attention To Battlefield 5

December 14, 2015 by Carlos Chism

The studio will continue to support Battlefront as well.

DICE Development director Dan Vanderlind said on Twitter that “a part” of the Star Wars Battlefront development team will continue to work on the sci-fi shooter as he moves on to “another project, the next Battlefield.. [sic]” Some team members still working on Battlefront will likely be working on the online support and post-release downloadable content.

Now that we've shipped Battlefront and a part of the team continues to work on it, I am moving on to another project, the next Battlefield..

— Dan Vaderlind (@mrVaderdan) December 11, 2015

While Vanderlind himself is moving to Battlefield 5, some other DICE members may be focusing on other tasks. Battlefield 5 was initially announced last fall, and EA has already said the game would return to its military-style roots.

Battlefield 4 launched in 2013 riddled with bugs and glitches. Many users could not get into matches or had trouble connecting to the Battle Log service at all. The tides have turned somewhat since then, as the game still sees a high player base over two years from its initial launch.

Star Wars Battlefront released last month to mixed reviews, with some critics citing the lack of a full-fledged multiplayer mode as a major disappointment. The general lack of content, even in the multiplayer mode, has been noted both by critics and the community alike.

Keep an eye on Gameranx for any future news about DICE’s next entry into the Battlefield franchise.
