Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 And Its Persistent Universe Have Gone Live

December 12, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

The persistent universe was, of course, not rushed for release. It was in PTU testing for two weeks now, but considering CIG’s pace and reputation, even their loyal fans did not expect it to go live immediately.

Cloud Imperium Games’ critics now have one less notch to gripe about for their long term space exploration game Star Citizen. Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 has gone live, meaning, players are now entering a persistent universe.

The persistent universe was, of course, not rushed for release. It was in PTU testing for two weeks now, but considering CIG’s pace and reputation, even their loyal fans did not expect it to go live immediately.

You can read more details on what the update brings here, but for once, let’s step back and take the update in like a fan. Want to know what entering the alpha now will be like? Here’s how it goes:

1.       You start in Port Olisar, an orbiting station.

2.       You can go to the hub in the middle of the station and request your ship be brought to Port Olisar’s launch pad.

3.       From there, you merely get past the airlock, climb in, and make your way from there.

4.       Using the Quantum Drive, you can travel to different waypoints and guarantee a new adventure every time.

5.       There are basic missions, and if you just want to go FPS crazy, Security Post Kareah has already been set aside for that purpose.

Lest we forget, there is also a free flight trial period ongoing now, so you can still squeeze yourself into the persistent universe. This is so long as you make an account and can download Star Citizen’s binaries that quickly, since the trial ends on the 14th.

Does this make you a believer or a doubter of Roberts Space Industries? Will you try to get into the persistent universe via the free flight trial? Share your thoughts with us in the comments. Star Citizen is in development for Windows and Linux.
