Tekken 7: Fated Retribution Flips A Demon, Brings In Street Fighter’s Akuma

December 12, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

It seems Studio 765 did figure out how to ‘translate’ a shoto into the Tekken system.

Bandai Namco has revealed Tekken 7 has a final title, as well as a surprise guest character, in the end of the latest Tekken 7 world eSports tournament.. Introducing Tekken 7: Fated Retribution.

And the big surprise? The guest character is none other than Capcom’s Akuma. In the trailer, it comes to light that the Mishima family matriarch, Kazumi, approaches Akuma and begs him to stop her husband if she cannot do it herself.

The trailer also shows off the returning characters in some great new alternate outfits, as well as the general graphical upgrade afforded by Unreal Engine 4.

It all looks very cool, and also drops hints that Studio 765 really was ready for Tekken X Street Fighter. To make things clear, Harada has gone on record that they haven’t talked about the game much because there are too many other fighting games coming out in the same period, including their own Tekken 7.

Harada spoke volumes about the challenges of ‘translating’, as it were, a character who uses projectiles into the Tekken system. In a very short time, dedicated Tekken fans will find out how they did it in the arcades.

Tekken 7: Fated Retribution is planned for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but will have the mandatory tenure in arcades all Tekken games get first. Are you looking forward to this one now? Share your thoughts with us in the comments, and watch the trailer above.
