Arrowhead CEO and director Johan Pilestedt has gone to bat to explain Helldivers’ DLC packs to their Steam players.
The co-operative twin stick shooter launched on Steam with an intimidating amount of DLC, so it should come as no surprise that it would raise some eyebrows. Johan explained that this is the accumulated output of ten months, specifically the ten months that has passed since the game was originally released on PlayStation platforms.
Johan also argues that they have done DLC using a fair business model. They consulted with their PlayStation community to make their DLC, and they have also spent considerable time releasing free updates and content, on top of the DLC.
Johan also explained the money they make off the DLC is being put back into the game, aside from what’s needed to keep a roof under Arrowhead studios.
Johan sums up by explaining there are business decisions related to the DLC pricing. He can’t elaborate on these in public, but he promises to investigate if fan request for 4 packs and a Digital Deluxe upgrade is feasible.
