Mortal Kombat started out as one of the most epic–and controversial–fighting game franchises in gaming history. Over time, the market got saturated as more and more games were released, and things didn’t evolve in quite the right way. (Don’t get us started on Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. With Mortal Kombat 9, things got a reboot and began moving in a much better direction, so much so that by the time we got to Mortal Kombat 11, the franchise was firing on all cylinders, selling more copies than ever. Making Mortal Kombat 12 a certainty, right?
You’d think that, except it hasn’t been confirmed by NetherRealm Studios or by Warner Bros Discovery. That being said, the clues are apparently there–if you know where to look. The Twitter feed of Andrew Bowen, who happens to be the voice actor for Johnny Cage in the recent games, is one such place. The actor posted a very unique video that showed him on the lot of Warner Bros. In the background was a sound clip from Bloodsport, and key in that clip were the words “savage combat.”
Many are speculating that this must be Mortal Kombat 12, given the largely obvious clues. While this doesn’t mean it’s confirmed, it’s enough to let fans know that the gears are in motion. For all we know, Bowen could be on the lot for a similar yet entirely different project. Let’s pretend that’s not the case.
With the previous game selling a record amount for the franchise and its DLC content being highly praised, a sequel is the logical next step. Let’s see if a real announcement comes in the near future.
