Donate to the Art of Video Games Exhibit, Get Name in Credits

October 6, 2011 by Patricia Hernandez

The Smithsonian will display an art exhibit early next year showcasing video game art — and they’re giving everyone a chance to appear in the credits.

As some of us know, the Smithsonian 'Art of Video Games' exhibit is one of the first prestigious exhibitions that acknowledges video games as an artistic medium. Currently, the exhibit is slated to feature 80 games from the last 40 years via static images and video. In addition to this, there will be an assortment of five games–Pac-Man, Super Mario Brothers, The Secret of Monkey Island, Myst, and Flower–available to the public for play.

Now the Smithsonian has opened up donations for the exhibit. Donor names will appear online as well "as a part of a dynamic projection in the exhibition from March 16th, 2012 through September 30th, 2012." You can find out how to donate a minimum of ten dollars here. It's worth noting that the more money you donate, the bigger your name will appear in the credits. Lastly, donors will be entered in a monthly raffle for a free gift from ThinkGeek. Y'know, just in case being a part of history wasn't enough to motivate you to donate.

Aperture Science has made its donation–who's going to pony up to throw Black Mesa's hat into the ring?
