Microsoft has regularly claimed that 2015 represents the "greatest games lineup in Xbox history," but 2016's offerings could be just as good or perhaps even better, that's according to marketing executive Yusuf Mehdi.
Speaking at the Credit Suisse Technology Conference in Arizona yesterday, Mehdi commented that "gaming has been a pretty big success case" for Redmond, adding that in 2015 it "probably [had] the best year we've ever had for Xbox.
"And it's on the back of the greatest games lineup in Xbox history," he said. "So if you like to game, this is the year to get an Xbox. We have Halo 5 launching. We have Minecraft on Xbox. We have Gears of War, Tomb Raider. The best lineup; next year will also be the best lineup."
Games including Halo 5: Guardians, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Forza Motorsport 6, and Rise of the Tomb Raider have all been pointed to as justifications for Microsoft's claims regarding its lineup this year.
A number of major exclusives including Gears of War 4, Quantum Break, Halo Wars 2, Recore, Scalebound, and Crackdown 3 have all been announced with 2016 release dates. There may also be a new entry in the Forza Horizon franchise and Rare's online game Sea of Thieves.
Sony will offer some stiff competition with the likes of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Street Fighter 5, Ratchet & Clank, Horizon: Zero Dawn, No Man's Sky, and the long awaited The Last Guardian all expected to come to the PS4 in 2016. Other titles may include Quantic Dream's Detroit and Gran Turismo Sport. Rise of the Tomb Raider will also be released on PS4 in late 2016.
