PlayStation Gives Us The Lowdown On Metrico+

December 2, 2015 by Olga Lexell

It’s a total remake of the original puzzle platformer.

At Gamescom, Digital Dreams announced that they would be rebooting Metrico, the PS Vita game, for PS4. They didn’t divulge too many details, so level designer Roy van de Mortel took to the PlayStation blog to explain Metrico+ further.

The designer describes Metrico+ as “a unique world for you to explore, which consists of all sorts of infographics like bar diagrams, pie charts and line graphs.” At first glance, that seems a little dry, but he reassures us of its potential: “These infographics constantly change based on your actions, movements and input. The goal of the game is to experiment and find out how each infographic within certain puzzles react, solving these puzzles in that manner.”

Evidently, a game this beautiful and complex requires a lot of planning:

The team wanted Metrico+ to be “explorative and experimental” but didn’t want to make the PS4  version feel like a rehash of the PS Vita game. In fact, much of the Vita game’s mechanics relied on the hardware’s features. Of course, Digital Dreams also took into consideration criticisms they received from fans who played the Vita version – as such, they wanted Metrico+ to have more “eventful moments” and “better pacing throughout the game.” And to make those fans happy, the team is currently exploring whether it might be possible to give Metrico+ for free to fans who purchased the original game. If you’d like to get a glimpse, check out Metrico+ at Playstation Experience this weekend.

Metrico+ will be available for PS4 in the first quarter of 2016, though an exact date hasn’t been announced.
