This Fallout 4 Mod Squashes And Stretches Your Faces For The Whole Game

December 2, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

It’s a mod made to please the looney toon in you.

Are you enjoying Fallout 4, but looking for a way to insert more personality into the game? This mod may just be right up your alley.

FancyPants’ new mod changes up everyone’s facial animations so that they could demonstrate the squash and stretch principle. No, I didn’t make that up, this is an actual animation technique, that was highly popularized by the Disney animators, but were used by just about all US animators from the 1930s onward, including the likes of Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry.

Without getting too technical, animators found from observing sports photographs that human body parts actually do squash and stretch any time they’re in motion. This depends on factors like inertia and elasticity. What the animators did is take it to the extreme, so that when we see a cartoon, these faces are recognizably human, but also inhuman, because of how far stretched and squashed they are.

This mod applies squash and stretch to everyone’s faces when you play Fallout 4. It is kind of fun to see in the game’s lighter moments, but the ridiculousness goes into overdrive when the story gets serious.

Of course, modder Fancypants went with the name Immersive Facial Animations. Think you’d give this a try? You can download it via Nexusmods here, or direct download (MediaFire) here. Watch a video of it in action above.
