As interactive tools become more and more relevant outside of the games industry, developers find themselves taking on new and unexpected projects. Epic Games announced today that Soar Technology will be its official partner in developing services for Unreal Engine 4 for use by the government and military.
“SoarTech’s long history of success in Government and military research and development makes them uniquely suited to support the application of the UE4 in this market sector,” said Unreal Engine licensing manager Joe Kreiner of the long-time government and military contractor.
SoarTech was equally enthusiastic about the partnership. "UE4 represents the cutting edge of game technology and, with a free licensing model available and full source code access, it offers a best of breed solution at an unmatched value," said SoarTech President and CEO Dr. Michael van Lent. "This relationship provides an opportunity to leverage SoarTech’s artificial intelligence technologies to explore how UE4 can make our warfighters more prepared, more informed and more capable."
While this is a big announcement, it’s not the first time Unreal Engine 4 has been used for surprising purposes. Previously, the engine has been used to help provide dementia therapy.
