CryEngine to Support Flash?

October 6, 2011 by Mat Growcott

Warning: If the idea of potentially playing a CryEngine game in your browser makes you stutter with incredulity, browse away now.

After the Unreal Engine 3 was shown to support flash in-browser earlier this week it’s fair to ask which other game engines could support this idea. Edge emailed Carl Jones, director of global business development for Crytek’s CryEngine, and he gave his opinion on the matter.

"It is an interesting approach we’ve been investigating as well," he discusses in his reply. "We're developing a unifying technology to create high quality social and gaming experiences on all platforms including browser, smartphones, tablets, etc.

"We hope to be able to tell you more about it soon when we present our truly cross-platform solution."

Travelling back in time and telling somebody in 2007 that, in theory, Crysis could run in a web browser would absolutely blow their mind and, even in 2011, I’m feeling a little bit lightheaded as it is.
