There Could Soon Be a Free-To-Play Pro Evolution Soccer 2016

November 23, 2015 by Carlos Chism

The details about this move are currently unknown.

Konami may be thinking of releasing a free-to-play version of its currently released game, Pro Evolution Soccer 2016. The Australian Classification Board has “Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 Free To Play” listed on its website, originally spotted by MCV. The paid version came out this September. There are currently know official announcements for a free-to-play PES 2016, and the Australian Classification Board has not listed possible platforms that would see the release.

The long running soccer franchise has always played second fiddle to Electronic Arts’ FIFA franchise, despite receiving generally consistent critical praise. The game usually features leagues not seen in FIFA, due to EA’s licensing stranglehold on most major European clubs. Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 received high praise from almost every outlet that reviewed it.

Konami could be making a move to make the game more accessible for a mainstream audience by releasing a free-to-play edition of the game. While no details have been leaked, the game will most likely allow players basic teams and modes, with more being unlocked through micro transactions. It is currently unclear if this means that Konami will no longer make a $60, traditional Pro Evolution Soccer in the future, but now we know it won’t be long until we find out.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
