Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain: Kojima Reveals Quiet Is Still Alive

November 20, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

It turns out the ending we assumed she had in the events of the game didn’t play out like we imagined.

Did you think Kojima’s laid out all his secrets for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain? Think again.

In an interview between bestselling Japanese authors Manabu Makime and Hitori Nojima, it has come to light that Quiet did not pass away in her final scene in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Without getting too spoiler-y, she is not seen dying onscreen but based on what we know about Quiet’s backstory and weaknesses, it seemed like that was what happened in her final scene in the game.

Manabu Makime and Hitori Nojima happen to be Kojima’s personal friends, who have worked on him with the novelizations of the Metal Gear games. Because of this, it was only natural that they would be privy to parts of Metal Gear lore that even its most ardent fans would not be aware of.

Kojima personally recommended that fans read the interview, although none of the information has been officially confirmed. Makime and Nojima went on to speculate about Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, and specifically, Kingdom of the Flies.

We’ve already covered Kingdom of the Flies here, but Makime and Nojima point out that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is perfectly fine even without it. They point out it’s too big to add into the game as it is, and it would have also disrupted the narrative based on it size.

They also defend Kojima for trying to do as best a job as possible to round up the series. Metal Gear is simply too big and too convoluted for a single game to do the job, and they argue Kojima did the best he could.

Do you think this interview hints at some more secrets for Metal Gear? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
