343 Industries Banning Halo 5 Cheaters, Changing SWAT Mode

November 18, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

All hail the ban hammer.

In Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer mode, players who have been found to be exploiting the game in order to acquire more REQ and XP points will receive action taken against them by developer 343 Industries, as outlined in a blog post on Halo Waypoint.

"We've been keeping a very close eye on Req point and XP boosting, and the exploits some players are using to idle in matches in an attempt to fill their very own Money Bin with a ton of REQ points and XP," 343 Industries said. "Our data team at the studio has not only caught this behavior, but we've also started taking action against offending accounts, including bans and removal of all REQ points."

It added, “Most of you need not worry about this, as you're aware that Req points and XP are only awarded for honor and bravery on the battlefield.”

In the same blog post, 343 outlined changes that have already been implemented into the game’s SWAT mode. The respawn timer is now three seconds instead of one, but 343 believes that it will “improve overall game flow while still maintaining the fast-paced action the playlist is known for.”

Also announced in the blog post are new rewards available through the Req system, such as the armor seen above or the weapon skin seen below.

Halo 5: Guardians was released last month, exclusively on Xbox One. In a previous update, 343 Industries removed a map entirely from a multiplayer playlists due to an exploit.
