EA Confirms Star Wars Battlefront Sequel, Access To The Force Awakens And Future Movies

November 17, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

The only thing is they have to follow the established fiction and they dont’ want to make direct games for the movies.

EA has already confirmed plans for a Star Wars Battlefront sequel, as well as what’s coming up next for their Star Wars games.

As we already know, EA penned a deal with Disney for Star Wars games for ten years. This deal encompasses consoles, PCs, and mobile.

Furthermore, EA does not just have access to the six Star Wars films, but also the upcoming The Force Awakens, as well as future movies and its spinoff. By implication, this includes ongoing Disney show Star Wars Rebels.

They also clarified that they do not have plans to make games directly about the movies, so these games will get the opportunity to stand on their own. It’s also an opportunity for EA’s studios to build more new worlds within Star Wars.

The only rule EA has to adhere to is to make sure their games follow the established fiction, which goes in line with LucasArts’ plans to keep the whole continuity streamlined and consistent moving forward.

Here’s the full statement from EA CFO Blake Jorgensen:

We struck a licensing deal with Disney a few years back that's almost ten years in length. The game that comes out tomorrow, Star Wars Battlefront, is a traditional first-person style shooter game. Our goal is to make future Battlefront games as well as other style games around the Star Wars franchise, both on mobile as well as console and PC. It's a huge opportunity for us.

Apparently, the next big Star Wars game coming up from them is the project by Visceral Games, which also has Amy Hennig attached to it. What do you hope to see from this partnership? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
