New Mainline Fire Emblem “Finished For Over A Year”

June 14, 2022 by Paul James

The graphics are said to be “an improvement over Three Houses.”

Noted Nintendo Insider Emily Rogers, who has a long list of credits when it comes to shared insights about all things going on at Nintendo, has revealed that Nintendo has a new Fire Emblem title waiting in the wings. This game is no longer in development–it’s finished, and it’s been “finished for over a year.”

The title was apparently developed with the intent to launch in 2020 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Fire Emblem franchise and has since been gathering dust. The title is a supposed “collaboration between Intelligent Systems, Koei Tecmo, and Gust (a division of Koei Tecmo Holdings),” and the graphics are said to be “an improvement over Three Houses.”

Her comments, found on Famiboards, spoke of a few other key aspects of the game including details about the lead protagonist. The “main character has strange red and blue hair. His mother is a dragon.” A new ‘Emblems’ gimmick allows players to summon ‘FE characters from the past’ for their squad. Rogers also confirms that the new game isn’t a remake like we’ve seen from other recent Fire Emblem releases (excluding Three Houses). “The upcoming Fire Emblem is a new game, not a remake. Brand new story.”

Considering that Nintendo has been ramping up the hype for the upcoming FE musou title, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, it seems reasonable to conclude that we won’t be seeing anything else regarding this reported new title for quite some time, despite its complete state. Will the game actually launch? If the primary gimmick was one drawing upon the history of Fire Emblem but they no longer have an anniversary to celebrate, does this diminish one of the game’s core attracting factors?

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch on June 24th, while any official confirmation of this supposed title is yet to be announced. With rumors continuing to mount about an upcoming June Nintendo Direct Showcase, perhaps the new title might find time to shine.
