Here’s How Fallout 4 Mods Will Work On Consoles

November 10, 2015 by Carlos Chism

They want it to be simple and easy.

Bethesda Vice President of Public Relations Pete Hines says in an interview with Xbox’s Major Nelson that Bethesda wants to make installing mods on console easy. He wants the mod selection and installation process to work similarly to choosing and downloading DLC. Users will be able to search for Fallout 4 mods and then download them with one press of a button. Unlike past PC installation methods, users won’t have to worry about putting mods into the correct folders or sorting them into a correct load order.

“We do it in a way that’s easy. I get asked this a lot on social media and Twitter. This is not about, ‘You have to have a PC and you have to do it yourself.’ The idea is you go to play the game and there’s a menu option and you click on it and there’s just a bunch of stuff for you to download. You click on the stuff you want and you start playing the game with these new mods. We want it to be a really streamlined, fun experience.” Hines said.

The developer is still fine tuning how players will get mods. We do know that they will be hosted on BethesdaNet servers, which will host the mods for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Hines has also hinted in the past that for the PC platform, creators may have to upload their creations to BethesdaNet, instead of one of the popular mod websites like the Nexus or Steam Workshop.

Players will have a bit of a wait for mods: the tools to create them won’t be available until sometime in 2016. Until then, check out our review of the game.
