Xenoblade Chronicles X Is This Many Times Bigger Than Skyrim, Fallout 4

November 10, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

You really can’t argue with the gameplay footage.

Did you forget about Xenoblade Chronicles X in light of Fallout 4, Call of Duty Black Ops 3,Star Wars Battlefront, and other hot games this holiday? You may change your tune after watching this.

We know before how Monolith Soft promised a world many times bigger than most open world games, with a literal planet to explore in Mira. Now, as Nintendo World Report can attest, they have more than delivered.

This video compares the sizes of Bethesda’sThe Elder Scrolls Skyrim and Xenoblade Chronicles X, but from the onset, the comparison was going to be unfair. The Elder Scrolls Skyrim is 37 sq km, or 14 sq m. In contrast, Xenoblade Chronicles X  is 400 sq km, or 154 sq m.

For the sake of getting a sense of scale, however, Nintendo World Report demonstrated in real time how it felt when you were actually playing Skyrim and Xenoblade.

For Skyrim, they assigned a Nord, who has been trained to be a tank, meaning he’s one of the slowest characters possible. On the other hand, the Xenoblade character is inside their Skell, guaranteeing they move a mile every few seconds just walking. They then had the Skell switch to land vehicle mode, to make it move even faster.

It took the Nord 20 to 25 minutes  to get to the other end of Skyrim. Of course, the Skell wasn’t able to get to the other end of Mira, and it did not even seem like it got to the end of that continent.

Need even more of a sense of scale? Here you go:

San Francisco fits in Xenoblade Chronicles X four times.

The just released Fallout 4 fits in Xenoblade Chronicles X five times.

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt fits in Xenoblade Chronicles X three times.

Watch the video for the proof of scale above. Xenoblade Chronicles X will be released on Wii U on December 4.
