Obsidian Reveals Medieval Mystery Pentiment At Xbox Showcase

June 12, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

It looks like the rumours were true: Obsidian’s new medieval mystery project Pentiment was officially announced earlier during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. As suggested earlier this month thanks to a teaser tweet from Obsidian’s Josh Sawyer, the project was revealed with the first look at some of the uniquely crafted gameplay.

Pentiment looks pretty epic in its artistic design alone and is styled in a similar fashion to historical artworks and medieval illuminated texts. The game is set in the 16th century, during a time of intense cultural and religious upheaval in Europe. Specifically, this narrative crime adventure takes place in Bavaria and sees players stepping into the role of craftsman Andreas, who finds himself mired in a complex murder mystery that he has to try and solve.

Described as a game full of “murder, scandals and intrigue,” Pentiment has clearly been in the works for some time at Obsidian, and its reveal today has got a lot of people talking over on Twitter already.

Pentiment was one of the last games I worked on at Obsidian. This project is a real labor of love, and I’m thrilled everyone finally gets to see it! https://t.co/3MAYvocMME

You can check out the trailer right here for a first look at the beautifully designed and compelling game concept to be found when this game releases.

The game itself looks set to be a surefire hit with history lovers as well as those who enjoy a good narrative adventure. Pentiment is set to be released at some point in the autumn of this year, which means there’s not too long to wait for those eager to get their hands on this historical detective drama. We’ll be keeping an ear to the ground for further updates on a release date as the game gets closer to its planned launch window later in the year.

Pentiment will be released in the autumn and will be available on day one on Xbox Game Pass and playable on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One and PC.
