GameStop is Accepting Overwatch Console Pre-Orders

November 5, 2015 by Stephen Daly

Has the retailer just spoiled a BlizzCon announcement?

Update: GameInformer reports that it has also learned from GameStop (its parent company) that Overwatch is console-bound.

Blizzard responded to the site's request for comment, encouraging fans to watch BlizzCon's opening ceremony tomorrow at 11:00 Pacific/14:00 ET.

"We are excited to share more information about Overwatch with everyone at BlizzCon this weekend – so be sure to tune in to the opening ceremonies for free at www.BlizzCon.com," the statement reads.

Original Story: Retailer GameStop has started accepting pre-orders for Blizzard's Overwatch on consoles.

The game is currently only confirmed for PC but there were already numerous reasons to suspect that the shooter was on its way to PS4 and Xbox One even before this latest development.

Kotaku reports that GameStop stores are accepting Overwatch pre-orders on all three platforms but the retailer states that the game will be $60, rather than free-to-play as was previously assumed. Blizzard does sell a $20 physical bundle for its free-to-play PC game Heroes of the Storm that comes with skins and heroes, so it's possible that the game still is free-to-play despite the price.

Authentication checks for PS4 and Xbox One were recently discovered and Battle.net's meta tag description of the game has said, "Overwatch is Blizzard’s team-shooter for PC and consoles."

Blizzard is expected to confirm plans to bring Overwatch to console at BlizzCon in Los Angeles tomorrow.
