NVIDIA Releases Black Ops 3 Driver And Recommended Hardware Information

November 4, 2015 by Carlos Chism

Those zombies might require some beefy hardware.

NVIDIA has released the first Game Ready drivers for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which launches this Friday, along with the recommended hardware to play the game at 60 FPS on three different screen resolutions.

  • For 4K Resolution (3840×2160), you’ll want a GeForce GTX 980Ti
  • For 2K Resolution (2560×1440), you’ll want a GeForce GTX 980
  • For 1080p Resolution (1920×1080), you’ll want a GeForce GTX 970.

NVIDIA says that the baseline recommendation, the GTX 970, will suit most players well, since it will play the game at high detail and 60FPS on the standard 1080p resolution. The company says that nothing less than the GTX 980Ti will work at the max 4K resolution, due to the additional strains on VRAm and performance that the resolution will make. They also remind users that the 900 series GPUs support several “Game and experience-enhancing technologies.”

Some PC players looking to pick this game up may wonder why the GTX 970, a lofty requirement for 1080p, was chosen as the recommended hardware. While this could be NVIDIA trying to sell more of its most recent series of GPUs, it could also mean that Treyarch, the developer behind Black Ops 3, didn’t optimize the game well enough for PC.

In preparation for the game’s launch, Activision has released a Call of Duty Beer, along with a Nuk3town Map Trailer. The game launches this Friday, November 6, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
