Sony Has Zero First Party Games in Development for PlayStation Vita

Sony has no first party games in development for PlayStation Vita, Sony Computer Entertainment executive vice president Masayasu Ito has revealed. 

In an interview with 4Gamer, as translated by Siliconera, Ito noted that when the Vita launched it was primarily sold to those in their 20s or older but games like Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition have helped Sony target a younger audience as well. 

Ito added that several third party games are planned for release on the handheld and Sony is focusing on those, while launching new colours for the system this autumn. 

While the Vita was considered a high-spec device at launch, Ito admitted that it no longer compares to recent high-end smartphones and said it would not be a good idea to simply overhaul its architecture and remake the device now. 

“Currently, there are no first party titles that are in development for the PlayStation Vita,” Ito commented. “Third party companies are working hard on the PlayStation Vita, so we here at SCE have strategized to focus on our new platform of PlayStation 4.”

PS4 has been a runaway success for Sony so it isn't too surprising they've shifted their focus to the console. SCE president and CEO Andrew House described Vita and its microconsole PlayStation TV as "legacy platforms" in May of this year. A Sony statement at the time clarified that House was referring to the first generation of Vita systems.
