Backers For Wolfe: The Red Hood Diaries Will Receive Kickstarter Rewards, After All

October 21, 2015 by Holly Green

The acquisition of the game and its assets by Rebellion Developments means the game may live on.

Back in August we reported that Belgian studio GRIN, the developer behind the Kickstarter-funded Wolfe: The Red Hood Diaries, had filed for bankruptcy following the game's disappointing sales. In a blog post on his site, the developer was apologetic, saying that the items promised in each of the reward tiers were complete and ready to ship out, but that he was so broke he didn't even have the money to send them. He also said the future episodes of the game would probably not be made, and that he would sell off the assets to any interested studios. Backers were of course less than pleased.

However, in a surpring new turn of events, Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries has been purchased by Rebellion Developments, the studio that made NeverDead and Sniper Elite. Not only that, all backers will be receiving their rewards. The developers, who are based in the UK, say that the project caught their eye due to its dark retelling of the classic fairy tale, but that once they found out the backers had not received their rewards, they realized with their merchandising resources they'd be the best ones to step in and save the day. You can read more on that in their FAQ about the acquisition.

This is good news not just for the backers but anyone who was interested in the IP, as well. When it debuted last March, The Red Hood Diaries was not well received, with critics citing the flimsy combat and poorly paced narrative. The game will probably be better off in a more experienced developers' hands. However, there will be no changes made to the original game and they are unsure if they will make a sequel. For right now, the original is still up on Steam for sale, with Rebellion now listed as the developers.
