Team Fortress Arcade, Out Now, Reimagines TF2 as a Retro Side-scroller

September 29, 2011 by Josh Harmon

Demaker Eric Ruth has released his homage to TF2. Best of all, it’s completely free.

If you've ever wondered what Valve's Team Fortress 2 would have looked like back in the early '90s, indie developer Eric Ruth's got you covered. Following up on his brilliant NES demake of Left 4 Dead, Ruth has decided to reimagine TF2 as a retro arcade side-scroller.

Team Fortress Arcade, as the demake is aptly named, features all nine TF2 classes, 10 different levels, and a whole lot of pixelated charm. He's managed to include some of TF2's best gameplay elements, from capture points to payload carts. There's even support for up to four-player local co-op, so you and your buddies can team up in true TF2 fashion. In fact, the game's only real shortcoming is the lack of online multiplayer, but Ruth has promised that it's coming in a future update to the game.

If you'd like to give Team Fortress Arcade a shot, it's available for free download over at Piki Geek. For more info on Eric Ruth's other work, check out his official site.
