Marvel Head talks Cliffhangers For Shows Like Moon Knight

May 26, 2022 by Todd Black

Long-form versus short-form.

Moon Knight

The Disney+ additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe have arguably been one of the more important things that the MCU has done in recent years. Because for the longest time, they only had the movies (and Agents of Shield…which is now non-canon), and thus were a bit limited at times in what they could and couldn’t show. But now, between WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…?, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and the upcoming Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk shows, they have a large roster of properties to play with.

That being said, they aren’t the most consistent in terms of what will be around for a while and what won’t. Moon Knight and Loki for example ended on cliffhangers. WandaVision was a one-off to lead into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Falcon and the Winter Soldier is allegedly going to lead into Captain America 4, Hawkeye has potential for more, but hasn’t gotten approved for a second season yet, and What If…? was arguably always going to be multiple seasons.

So why do this approach? Well, the Head of Streaming, Television and Animation Brad Winderbaum talked about this in an interview:

“There are new challenges and new rewards that come with making longer-form stories,” Winderbaum said. “We’re keeping the endings more open now, I think. We don’t have to tie up every loose end. And when you create characters as strong as Moon Knight and Scarlet Scarab, we can confidently go into the future knowing that there’s more stories left to tell and new characters that we can bring in to tell them.”

Many are indeed wondering if the newer characters like Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Kate Bishop and so on are going to appear in the larger MCU, and at the very least, the possibility is there.
