Far Cry Primal Takes Players Back to 10,000 BC, Release Date and Details Revealed

October 6, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Here’s everything you need to know about Far Cry Primal

Ubisoft has officially announced the development of Far Cry Primal, the next chapter in the on-going Far Cry series of first-person shooters. Unlike the previous games, which are set in modern times, Far Cry Primal will take players back to the Stone Age.

The game will hit store shelves worldwide on February 23, 2016 for the PS4 and Xbox One. It will also be launched on the PC in March 2016, though no specific date has been given.

The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal in collaboration with other Ubisoft studios across the world. The game is described as a "full fledged" single-player experience, making it a full entry in the series rather than a spin-off like Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.

Players will venture back to 10,000 BC to a time when the wooly mammoth and sabretooth tiger ruled the Earth. Taking on the role of Takkar, a seasoned hunter and the last surviving member of his hunting group, players arrive in the savage land of Oros and survive in a world where humans are prey. Players can expect to meet a cast of characters who will help them push back the wild and tame the savage land.

According to Ubisoft, players can expect to hunt for food, master the secrets of fire, fend off wildlife, craft weapons and tools from the corpses of slain beasts, and fight other tribes to conquer the land.

“The interesting thing about Far Cry is that it’s flexible. So when a team proposed to explore the idea of a Far Cry taking place during the Stone Age, we just said ‘let’s hear it!’ And the more we heard about it, the more we realized how much of a damn good idea it actually was,” said Dan Hay, executive producer at Ubisoft.

“The Stone Age is the perfect setting for a Far Cry game,” said Jean-Christophe Guyot, creative director. “Far Cry usually puts you at the edge of the known world, in a beautiful, lawless and savage frontier. The Stone Age is, in a way, the very first frontier for humankind; it’s the time when humans put a stick in the ground and claimed land for their own, the time when we started climbing the food chain. That came with conflict, against other humans of course, but also against nature itself.”
