Rockstar Has No Plans for Red Dead Redemption on PC

September 28, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Red Dead Redemption is probably never coming to the PC, according to former lead designer.

Rockstar Games has never had plans to bring Red Dead Redemption to the PC. The revelation will certainly break the heart of any PC gamer.

Speaking on the Twitch livestream for Forza 6, the game's former lead multiplayer designer talked about his work on RDR, answering questions from inquisitive gamers.

Roberts said that although RDR was developed on a PC environment, it was designed as a "console only" title. He added that he was surprised when Rockstar made a PC version of Grand Theft Auto V.

"I don't think there was ever an intention to have a PC version of Red Dead Redemption," Roberts said. "I was actually super shocked that they did a PC version of Grand Theft Auto V. Obviously in development, we were all PC-based and had it running for win32 clients for the entire development. But as far as the licensing for the consoles and stuff, it was pretty much always going to be a Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title. To the best of my recollection, we never even seriously talked about optimizing it for PC."

Although Roberts no longer works for Rockstar, it's safe to say that revelations that the company never had plans to bring RDR to the PC will come as a disappointment to many.

However, given that GTA 5 was released on the PC eventually, there may still be a chance it could happen, however slim.
