New Action Adventure Game I, The Inquisitor Officially Revealed

May 23, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

A brand new action-adventure game I, The Inquisitor has just been revealed with an intriguing-sounding story premise and a trailer that has divided commentary. Based on the bestselling books by Jacek Piekara, I, The Inquisitor is a dark and story-rich adventure that puts players in the shoes of a religious Inquisitor in the 1500s.

In this alternate version of religious history, Jesus of Nazareth didn’t die on the cross. Instead, he got pretty furious about the whole thing (as you might expect) and responded to his crucifixion with a whole lot of rage rather than forgiveness and compassion.

It turns out that Jesus then creates his own order in the form of an army of Inquisitors, whose job it is to root out sinners and nonbelievers and either show them mercy or punish them. A few centuries on and this Church is pretty blood-soaked and definitely morally tainted, so working out who deserves punishment and who does not should prove to be quite complex work. It’s all very gritty and premise-wise, sounds very interesting. Check out the reveal trailer in full here.

However, one thing that seems to have caught the attention of social media already is the reveal trailer’s graphics. Despite it being clearly explained at the beginning of the video that the footage is pre-release and subject to change, quite a few users on YouTube have remarked about the trailer’s graphics being perhaps under par for the modern console era.

This is probably compared to some of the more recent trailers we’ve seen that have been developed with newer engines such as Unreal Engine 5, for example. However, given that the game is still in development with no specific release window as of yet, it could be that future gameplay footage gets a better reaction in terms of the game’s visuals. The game is intended for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, so we’ll have to wait and see what further footage looks like closer to the time of release.

We’ll be keeping up to date with all things I, The Inquisitor as more updates come out. It’s planned for eventual release on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
