Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Will Feel “Like A Movie”

May 20, 2022 by Todd Black

A TV show in movie form.

One of the things that many have noted about the Disney+ series involving Star Wars or Marvel properties is that while they’re not the longest of things (the longest being 9 episodes via WandaVision at present), they do present a “cinematic experience” that is very movie-like in its scale and scope. And that brings us to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

Because Ewan McGregor himself talked during a press conference about the limited series and noted that between the technology and how it turns out, you’re basically watch a movie over 6 episodes.

“I mean, the technology is so different from when we made the original movies, that it felt like a different experience anyway,” McGregor explained.

“I think because it was a TV show, the beauty of it, because it’s a series is that we’ve got longer to tell the story,” McGregor said. “But because [director Deborah Chow] directed them all and it’s her singular vision throughout, it did feel like we were just making one movie. And the episodic nature of our series, it falls really cleverly in the storyline, but it is one driving narrative. I think The Mandalorian feels more episodic if you like, because it suits that storytelling. And it of course has a driving storyline through each season, but ours is like a movie that just happens to be split up into these episodes. That’s how I feel about it.”

It also makes sense that they would do this approach because for all we know, this is it. Meaning, this is all we’ll get from this series, versus The Mandalorian which is meant to be viewed over the course of seasons as it’s a new character and such.

Still, whether it feels like a movie or a TV show, many are very excited to see Obi-Wan Kenobi on May 27th.
