What Is The Future Of The Flash TV Series?

May 20, 2022 by Todd Black

Season 10…?

The Flash

Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? Almost a decade ago (this October in fact), Arrow came onto the CW. It was their first superhero series since Smallville ended (more on that later), and they were hoping to recapture what they did, but with a hero that many only knew from the cartoons like Justice League Unlimited. The show was a big success, and that inspired the Arrowverse, starting with its spinoff series…The Flash.

But after Crisis on Infinite Earths (and 8 seasons), Arrow ended, and The Flash became the frontrunner (pun intended) of the Arrowverse and all that was left. Then the pandemic happened and a lot of things shifted, but Flash endured, and is on Season 8 itself right now with Season 9 confirmed for 2023. However, many fans are wondering if this will be “the end” for Barry Allen”, or, if they’ll get a 10th season. During The CW’s scheduling call press conference, network president Mark Pedowitz had this to say on the matter:

“We have a lot of questions about how to go forward,” Pedowitz revealed. “We have not made any determination, nor has the studio.”

Not exactly “telling”, but it’s not nothing either. Many fans are curious because of the cancelations of Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow and Naomi, as well as the much lighter DC Comics schedule overall in the upcoming season (Stargirl is the only series coming out this fall for that side of the brand). Add to that, the CW might be sold soon…so that’s something to ponder.

The reason the CW might be up for a 10th season has to do with Smallville. That beloved show went 10 seasons as well, and set a record for both superhero shows and the WB/CW network at the time. So perhaps they want Flash to tie the seasons record with Smallville. Only time will tell.
