Delays Confirmed for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown

May 18, 2022 by John McDonald

These delays are becoming a running trend.

Another delay has hit the gaming industry and this time it involves Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown which has been delayed until 2023, according to the publisher of the game. And to add to those sorrows, the last-generation versions of the game have also been canceled – when it rains it really does pour.

A recent blog post that was added to Steam addressed the news by saying, “Our goal with Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown is to make it the most polished gaming experience in the franchise by spending more time on its development”, which is the usual answer for such delays.

The highly anticipated racing game was supposed to be released in September 2022 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. But look at it on the bright side, in 18 months’ time, a better version of the game will be available, which isn’t really softening the blow too much, is it?

Now, onto that other news, Nacon confirmed today that the game will no longer be released for the older generation platforms of Microsoft and Sony, which means this is a next-gen exclusive. Nacon spoke about the reasoning for this in a statement, “Finally, with the aim of making the most of the technology in the latest consoles and maximizing the overall quality of the game, Nacon has decided to stop the development of Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.” But that really isn’t a surprise, more just a moving with the times than anything.

Something that is quite positive is the fact that Nacon has also announced they will be working on a schedule for several closed betas of the upcoming game. The aim is to gather valuable feedback from loyal fans so they can improve the quality of the game until the final release date. This is actually a great idea and shows that the team is not only interested in creating the best game they can, but also shows they want to understand what the fans like best.

The schedule for the beta’s has not been announced just yet, but keep an eye out for any updates involving that, you may want to get your hands on a copy of them.
